What, you mean stress is good?!

Stress adds strength to structure, much the way pruning back a tree allows it to bear more fruit. It gives us a chance to feel the contrast between what we want more of and what we want less of, or life would be one long boring musical note that never ceases. How would you know happy if you didn't know sad?

Since it is an inescapable part of life, rather than pray it simply goes away, doesn't it make more sense to develop effective ways to sway and not break when the winds blow strong around you?

Healthy trees are naturally flexible -- the strongest wind can blow and they remain firmly rooted, even as their branches bend and sway. Willows are especially graceful under pressure, arching gently to the ground with branches so supple they can even be bent to create strong, supportive chairs to rest in.

While the image of bending gracefully through the winds of change sounds nice, it feels more like a fantasy than your reality. Yet within all of us is a seed of potential for true inner resilience that needs to be nourished and treated with great care.

It's hard to fit in all of the things you "know" you should do to help reduce stress. Some days it feels like a part time job just to cover the basics! And it's easy to forget the little things that make a big difference, like paying attention to your breath or taking stretch breaks more regularly
